You are invited to participate in a discussion concerning the Debt of Our Existence. As the World continues in a dangerous transition phase with three major wars occurring simultaneously, it becomes a question for each person who has become aware of the possibility of human evolution to find their place in providing a counterbalancing effect to the incredible unconscious destructive behavior of humanity. Those of us involved in the Gurdjieff Work need to explore their relationship and responsibility during this time of maximum danger that humanity faces.
As you're reading this, take a moment to become aware of the fact that most likely you're reading it on a computer that was designed and made by other human beings. Then, look around you and notice all the things in the room that you're in wherever you are—notice all the material things. They were designed and made by people whom you don't know and most likely will never know. Recognize for a moment that your existence and welfare are actually always dependent on others.
We take material welfare and security for granted from the time we are little children—everything that we have around us is just the way it is. We rarely consider how many other individuals with feelings, bodies, and thoughts made efforts to create the reality in which we live. The food we eat, the clothes we have, the structures that protect us from the elements, and all the experiences we then have are intimately connected with other people who have lived for centuries before us and with us now making efforts of which we remain unaware.
Russell and Elizabeth Schreiber are clinical psychologists and ask you to come and participate in a discussion to explore the role of us as followers of Gurdjieff’s system of self-development at this pivotal time in the history of the planet.
Although Gurdjieff lived at a dangerous time for humanity with the Russian Revolution and WWI and WW2, it is now even more dangerous for humanity. Due to the proliferation of Nuclear weapons, we are at the precipice of the destruction of biological life for the planet. What can we, and what should we, practitioners of inner development, do to divert humanity from the possibility of biological suicide? Can we really be of help? This is an area that Gurdjieffians need to explore together.
